I was outside, enjoying our property when Charlie Kirk was killed.
Our world has been rocked.
I am grieving.
My children lost a voice for their generation. Someone they could look up to. A leader. A man who was shaping the future for them.
This is a huge loss.
In the past I’ve considered what I would say if I had the opportunity to speak to Charlie Kirk. First, I suspect he would have smiled and shown his delight that I homeschool, and mother 8 children. I would have thanked him for doing such a good work, for showing our kids that debate and open dialogue is possible. That having a voice for truth is important. I would have told him I use his video clips as ‘curriculum’. I would have thanked him for making those videos available to the public.
Utah governor Spencer Cox said “Charlie believed in the power of free speech and debate, to shape ideas and to persuade people. And when someone takes the life of a person, because of their ideas or their ideals, then our very constitutional foundation is threatened.”
From Connor at Tuttle Twins: “For years he poured himself into a mission that most people didn’t understand until they saw it up close. He was trying to reach kids before the system swallowed them whole… Charlie understood that, and he tried to interrupt it- to save as many of them as he could. And they killed him for it.”
Charlie Kirk was a threat to leftist agenda.
I remember Ken Ham telling about an atheist commenting on the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter after visiting. This man said the whole organization is a threat to atheism because it shows, logically, the truth of the Bible.
Atheists work hard to teach children their worldview because they have a vision for the future of America, and that is not Christianity willing to stand strong on Scripture. It’s been said that Christians themselves don’t understand or acknowledge the power in teaching their children the hows and whys of Christianity. They don’t teach their children how to debate well, how to have an answer for those who question them.
(Side note: I believe there has been a shift in the past years where Christians are acknowledging the need to train the next generations to lead and speak and stand for truth.)
Those with a left-leaning view tend to have less (or no) children than Christians. Therefore, they need to indoctrinate our kids to shape the future. This trend is what Charlie Kirk interrupted. He was extremely successful, which made him a major threat to those with a leftist agenda. His words, his presence, opened up a new path for the next generation.
He was a threat, and they needed his voice silenced.
There are examples in history of other such times. The biggest example is Jesus Christ. Why did the Jewish leaders want him dead? Because he was a threat to what they were building.
Jim Elliot was a threat to the culture of the Aucas by sharing the truth of the Gospel. Those Indians attacked and killed Jim Elliot and the others with him to eliminate that threat.
What does this say to us? To the Christians of this country? It tells us we are in a war and if we expect to win this fight, now is not a time to be silent.
Obviously, as we can see from the September 10th assassination, this is a dangerous fight. Are we willing to undertake this danger? For the sake of the Gospel? For the future of our children? For the future of America?
Alex Clark* writes “But we know what Charlie would say: ‘We don’t back down now. We fight harder. We become braver. People do not murder people for telling lies. Fight to protect our right to tell the truth’.”
Most of us will not be a Charlie Kirk. God gave that man a talent in debate, an “exceptional speedy and articulate mind”*, the ability to smile and treat others with dignity even when he was shouted down, mocked, and insulted. Most of us have friends and family and the occasional stranger to speak truth to. May we do it well. And may we always bear in mind the end goal – to bring America back to being a God-fearing country.
“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12
